Detroit Pistons vs. Charlotte Hornets sees four players ejected after brawl

“Emotions were running high. At the end of the day, we would have liked to keep the basketball, but things happen. Everyone just played hard,” Duren said after the game.

“This isn’t the first time people have tried to be extra aggressive with us and talk to us, whatever it is.

“At the end of the day, emotions ran high because everyone was competitive. Things happen.”

Bridges later apologized to fans, writing on Instagram: “Sorry Hornets nation! Sorry Hornets organization! I will always protect my teammates forever.”

Chief official John Goble said in the post-match report that the players were sent off for “engaging in fighting during a dead ball”.

“After the review, we assessed the fouls in the fight and as a rule they were thrown out of the game,” he added.

Lee, asked about the altercation between Diabate and Duren that sparked the wider brawl, said: “The two guys got into a heated argument and then it spiraled from there.

Of his own ejection in the fourth quarter, Lee added, “I have to have a little better emotional control at that point.”

Elsewhere, Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors will miss Sunday’s All-Star game with a right knee injury.

However, the Warriors hope to have Curry back after the All-Star break for the Feb. 19 game against the Boston Celtics.
