Al Horford and Guy Santos, the two sparks of the Warriors’ comeback

Guy Santos and Al HorfordSteve Kerr could breathe a sigh of relief at the press conference. Now without Jimmy Butler, but also without Stephen CurryTHE Warriors they went straight to defeat against Grizzlies. With four minutes left, Memphis was leading by ten points (103-113) and had a 95.8% chance to win!

Except Tuomas Iisal’s players won’t score anymore, and Golden State went on an 11-0 run to win…

Without their main pyrotechnician, the Bay players suffered until the end, but they pulled through, as did this last basket by Guy Santos, served up by a downed Al Horford, who only missed two shots from the rim, but who took the offensive rebound each time to allow his teammate to be the winner.

“It’s great”, smiled Gui Santos after his decisive layup. “It’s a good feeling, especially considering how the match went. We felt like we weren’t bringing the energy we usually bring throughout the game. But the last quarter was different. We were together on the court. Everybody was playing for everybody else.”

“We were completely flat, without energy, without enthusiasm”

Steve Kerr admits that he was looking for energy for a long time, he only found it at the end, when Draymond Green was released. These are in fact Al Horford (+24 to +/- in 26 minutes) and therefore Guy Santos (+11) who brought a much-needed spark to a long-struggling Warriors team.

“We prayed for some desire in the first three quarters”the coach explained. “We were completely flat, no energy, no enthusiasm… Sometimes you just need a spark… And we found a group in those last seven minutes, and it really worked.”

At the age of 39, the Dominican pivot proved that he is still valuable and finished the match with 16 points on 7/12 shooting, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, while Gui Santos collected 16 points on 7/10 shooting and 8 rebounds.
