De’Andre Hunter missed time with a freak eye injury

Recently, the The Sacramento Kings have decided to shake things up by trading for De’Andre Hunter of Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroeder. Schroder and Ellis returned to Sacramento earlier this week, coming up relatively well in the Cavs’ win over the Kings.

Unfortunately, the injury bug has already started to hit Hunter since he arrived in Sacramento, having suffered recently freak eye injury.

“Sacramento Kings forward De’Andre Hunter has been diagnosed with iritis after taking a shot to his left eye in Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He will be re-evaluated in about 10 days,” reported Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee on X, formerly Twitter.

The injury came from an accidental hit by the Clippers’ Kobe Sanders last week, which sickened Hunter and forced the Kings’ coaching staff to come out and check on the new trade acquisition.

Injuries have been a problem for Hunter since his days with the Atlanta Hawks, though of course this particular case is isolated and not a sign of things to come.

Hunter struggled with bad ball this season for the Cavaliers before the trade that sent him to the Kings, seeing his field goal and three-point percentages drop dramatically compared to the career year he enjoyed last season when Cleveland acquired him from the Hawks at the trade deadline.

Hunter doesn’t necessarily qualify as a “young talent” for the Kings, who are desperate to add players they can potentially build around moving forward, but he gives them a good wing who can space the floor when he’s on it.

Either way, the Kings will next take the floor on Wednesday night on the road against the Utah Jazz.
