Ingram gets NBA All-Star Game honors instead of Curry

The Toronto RaptorsBrandon Ingram made it to the All-Star Gameand comes into account of Stephen Currywho developed a problem with his right knee on January 30. Ingram, 28, has had a more than ideal start to life with the Raptors, averaging 22 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

The selection gave the 28-year-old his second All-Star honor, his first of 2020, and added him to a Toronto contingent that already includes Scotty Barnes and head coach Darko Rajakovic. Curry’s absence stems from a lingering right knee problem it forced him to miss multiple games and eventually retire from what would have been his 12th All-Star appearance.

The 37-year-old guard lost against the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 30 with knee soreness, and the Warriors have taken a cautious approach since then. Golden State’s medical deadline is uncertain, but the organization hopes he will be ready for his first game after the break.

Regardless, the news comes as a big boost for Ingram, who some thought deserved a look from the start. The Raptors have won three of their last four games and are currently 5th in the Eastern Conference at 32-22.

Ingram was the main foil next to the quartet of shooters that the Raptors have. Scotty Barnes, who averaged 19.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists, has already earned his All-Star nod. Both Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett are also averaging close to 20 points per game. The Raptors have been extremely successful as a unit and Ingram’s arrival has turned them into a team capable of scoring against any team in the NBA.

The name-calling coming at Curry is sure to annoy Warriors fans, who would like to see their talisman make his 12th career All-Star Game. The four-time champion remains an integral part of the Warriors’ chances of emerging as a postseason contender and will be itching to get back to full fitness.
