Jonathan Kuminga’s meeting left Steve Kerr banging on the board

Recently, the The Golden State Warriors have made up their minds to make a change at the NBA trade deadline until sending Jonathan Cumminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis. The move ended the Bay Area’s bizarre head-coaching Kuminga saga Steve Kerr often keeps the former lottery pick out of his rotations despite the team’s need for athletic two-way wings.
Now, more information is coming to light about how hot tensions were between Kuminga and Kerr.
One incident is said to have occurred on Dec. 10, when Kerr met with Cummings regarding his absence from a team-requested event and the fact that he was suspected of taking too much food from the family room.
“Anger seethed in Kerr’s office that afternoon. The discussion went from the small picture to the bigger picture. Frustrations surfaced on both sides – Kerr expressing his displeasure with Kuminga’s lack of participation and competitiveness toward team goals, and Kuminga voicing his hurt at Kerr’s belief in him as a long-time missing ES player.”
Slater also noted that “the meeting ended, sources familiar with the exchange said, as Kerr slammed his whiteboard in frustration.”
Tensions between Kerr and Kuminga have been building for some time, with many fans questioning why the talented forward is getting so little playing time despite the lack of talent elsewhere on the roster.
Now he’ll have a chance to showcase his skills with the Hawks, another team in need of some firepower on the wings on both ends of the floor.
Meanwhile, the Warriors will be hoping that Porzingis is able to stay healthy for them through the rest of this season, as he would, in theory, check a lot of boxes for the team on both offense and defense.
The Warriors will next take the floor on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs.
