LeBron James’ historic triple-double crushes the Mavericks

THE Lakers closed out their first stretch of the season with a convincing 124-104 win against the Mavericks, fueled by a historic performance from LeBron James. THE “King” became the oldest player to achieve a triple-double with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
There is no Luka Doncic for the Lakers and Cooper Flagg for Dallas, and yet the first quarter is all about offense. Both teams are skilled, but the Lakers are quickly going 10-0, and LeBron James is already dominating. He scored 14 points in the first quarter, while Rui Hachimura added nine points. Dallas responds with a 12-0 run initiated by Najib Marshall, but Los Angeles ends the quarter with a five-point lead (36-31).
In the second quarter, Dallas briefly got back on level terms. The Lakers struggled behind the arc, but still managed to take a 12-point lead thanks to a big run (13-2). Austin Reeves steps up the offense off the bench. However, a new run by the Mavericks cut the gap to one at halftime (64-63).
LeBron will get his triple-double
The turnaround comes after halftime. Dallas takes the lead at the beginning of the third quarter, but the Lakers significantly increase the level of defense and offense. Jared Vanderbilt and Maxi Kleber make important game-winning shots, while LeBron orchestrates the game. The Lakers take control, and at the end of the third quarter they increase the deficit by 14 points.
In the last quarter, the Lakers manage to lead. Despite numerous fouls and a flurry of free throws on both sides, the margin remains comfortable. Austin Reeves and Rui Hachimura hit 3-pointers as Jackson Hayes warms up for an All-Star dunk. Two minutes from the end, LeBron James grabbed his tenth rebound, confirming his first triple-double of the season (28 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds). Then he leaves the court with a standing ovation, and the Lakers win by 20 points (124-104).
