The NBA sanctions the Jazz and the Pacers very harshly

The NBA fined the Jazz $500,000 and the Pacers $100,000, finding that both teams intentionally rested healthy players late in or throughout the game. She reiterated that any decision that threatens the integrity of the competition will not be tolerated. Clearly, the NBA is keeping a close eye on teams already in the “tanking” and the fines will fall.
“This guy’s blatant behavior, which prioritizes draft position over winning, undermines the foundation of an NBA championship, and we will respond accordingly to any future actions that threaten the integrity of our games.”writes Adam Silver in press release. “In addition, we are working with our Competition Committee and our board to introduce additional measures to stamp out this type of behaviour.”
And yet jazz won…
The penalty imposed on the Jazz relates to recent games played against the Magic on February 7th (120-117 loss) and the Heat on February 9th (115-111 win). During these meetings, Utah left its stars Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. on the bench during the fourth quarter. “while these players could continue to play and the outcome of the matches remained uncertain”rated by the league.
Owner of Jazz, Ryan Smith joked on social media after the announcement of the sanction: “We don’t agree… We win in Miami and get punished? Logic…”
For their part, the Pacers were punished for resting Pascal Siakam and two other starters against the Jazz on February 3rd. According to the NBA, “They could play under medical criteria, including reduced playing time. Otherwise, the team could rest them during other games in a manner that complies with the regulations.”
Already last season, the NBA imposed a $100,000 fine in Utah for resting Markkanen for several matches, and that undoubtedly explains the $500,000 fine for two recent infractions.
