Lakers’ Brony James clowns ‘old**’ LeBron James after historic triple-double

LeBron James became the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double during Thursday’s 124-104 home win over the Dallas Mavericks. He must share a special moment with her son, but it wasn’t all warm and fuzzy. Bronnie James kept the mood light and hit his father.

“The old triple-double…” the sophomore guard said as he entered the locker room, per Lou Murray of the Athletics. Although James is having a little fun at his father’s expense, he clearly understands the magnitude of what the all-time great forward accomplished against the Mavs.

The elder James, who turned 41 at the end of December, led the Lakers with 28 points (10-of-20 shooting), 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Since Luka Dončić is recovering from a hamstring strain, and with Austin Reaves still working his way back to a full load after missing more than a month with a calf strain, the four-time NBA Finals MVP is being forced to shoulder a heavier load.

That’s a crazy line to write about a player in the midst of his 23rd NBA season, but James can clearly still handle that role when needed. He entered Thursday’s game against Dallas averaging 21.8 points, 6.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from 3-point range. A slimmed-down LeBron James is still pretty dangerous.

Brony James, however, has a multi-layered view of the man. He doesn’t let his father reach another remarkable milestone without reminding him how long he’s been playing. Expect this dynamic to continue into the All-Star break, as the Lakers (33-21) need some time to recharge before the final 27 games of the regular season.
