Pride of VJ Edgecombe? Meet Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
As Zachary Rizaher explainedone of the big draws of All-Star weekend for young players is the chance to interact with the famous seniors. It is the only time in the season where the NBA is represented yesterday and today VJ Edgecombe can attest to that since he was able to meet Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!
“I got to sit next to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It was amazing.” he answers when asked what he will remember this day for. “I interacted with a lot of players, some I already knew, some I didn’t. There are a lot of media appearances… I’m tired! I’m ready to go home.”
MVP rising star with his 10-point streak, including the game-winning free throws, the rookie is clearly very proud to bring home the trophy and his franchise. Spurred on by Tyreese Maxey on the sidelines, he appears to be heavily marked by his brief encounter with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Smile all the time
“I shook hands with him, we didn’t really talk” he specifies. “But he’s one of the greatest players of all time. To be in the same room as him is a blessing. We try to honor those who came before us by playing hard and doing the little things right. He still shows love for the game, even long after he’s retired. I have a lot of respect for him and all the seniors. I’m thankful that everyone in this league has respect.
And when we ask him why he always smiles, he answers:
“First of all, I really love this sport. It saved me a lot of trouble. Then I’m in the NBA, I’m surrounded by great people. And I get paid to play, so I can take care of my family. Why don’t I have fun? The others put enough pressure on me. You have to be at peace with yourself and your game. I try to stay balanced. »
