“You could see on his face that he was doing everything to come back”
a few days ago, Jayson Tatum moved to the G-League to train with the Maine Celticsfranchise associated with the Boston Celtics. A victim of a ruptured Achilles tendon against the Knicks last May, the wing continues to rehabilitate, maintaining the possibility of a return before the end of the regular season.
This stint with the Celtics’ G-League team was an important step in his comeback. Ron Harper Jrpresent during the session, said he was impressed with the Boston star.
“He played hard, pushed himself to his limits. You could see on his face that he wanted to come back and was doing everything to come back.”Dylan’s brother and Ron Harper’s son confided, present during All-Star weekend in Inglewood. “To witness his persistence was truly special.”
Just before his return, LeBron James also participated in a workout with the Lakers’ G-League team. So when an NBA star trains with a G League team, what’s it like?
“The goal of the session was to offer him an intensity that he cannot recreate with individual training, or in two-on-two or three-on-three”explains Ron Harper Jr. “We played at a high tempo, we were physical with him and we defended him like we will when we return to the NBA courts. That’s part of our job: we tried to help him get back into the competition.”
It remains to be seen if Jayson Tatum will feel ready to return this season … or if he’ll prefer to take his time.
