The biggest thing Chet Holmgren credits for the All-Star jump
Ahead of his first All-Star appearance, Oklahoma City Thunder‘s Chet Holmgren reflected on how he took his game to new heights during the day on Saturday. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander backed up Holmgren’s first All-Star selectionconsidering it unreasonable. Gilgeous-Alexander sees the work Chet puts in during practice, but the Thunder starting forward says putting in overtime when no one is watching is critical.
For Holmgren, it’s the extra time he invests improve your game yourself a credit that led him to become the All-Star forward he is today.
“I would say it’s all the work that’s not in the game,” Holmgren said. “It’s preparation before games, shots in the morning, work in the summer; all the things that no one sees – injury rehab. If you didn’t do it, no one would know about it. But at the end of the day, when you go out on the field, it shows.”
Holmgren is averaging career bests in points (17.4), field goal percentage (56%) and rebounds (8.7) per game.

Thunder forward Chet Holmgren is grateful for his first All-Star selection. Before All-Star weekend, Holmgren reacted to going to Los Angeles after Chet’s first All-Star selection.
“It means a lot. I just have a lot of people to thank – the help they’ve given me along the way. From family friends, coaches, old teammates, current teammates, the Thunder, the opportunity they’ve given me and the position they’ve put me in. I’m always forever grateful for that,” Homgren said.
“I always say I’m never going to play or chance things of that nature, but that doesn’t mean there’s not an appreciation for it and an understanding of the weight of it. I’m extremely grateful and I just feel like I have to keep going, and I’ve got so much (further) to go.”
Holmgren will play for Team USA Stars along with Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker of the Suns, Scotty Barnes of the Raptors, Tyrese Maxey of the 76ers, Pistons All-Star Cade Cunningham and Jaylen Duren and Jaylen Johnson of the Hawks.
