Anthony Edwards reveals true feelings in NBA All-Star game format

The NBA Competition Committee is looking for ways to encourage players to do their best during the All-Star Game. They experimented with multiple formats, which then led them to the three-team, Team USA vs. World Team format they used for this year’s festivities. In the end, Team USA Stars won the whole thing, taking a convincing 47-21 victory over Team USA Stripes in the finals of the competition β€” with Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards drives home ASG MVP honors.

Edwards dropped 32 points in three games (two wins), and became the most consistent player on Team Zvezda. The The Timberwolves star was clearly feeding off the energy games, especially when going up against almost every other top player in the alliance.

For what it’s worth, Edwards gave his all seal of approval according to the new All-Star Game format, though it’s hard to blame the Timberwolves star for thinking this way given how he’s had so much success this year.

“I know they’re not going to really buy into what I’m saying, but I like the format. I think it makes us compete because it’s only 12 minutes. There’s different teams, you separate guys. I think it’s been really good,” Edwards said, via ClutchPoints Washington Wizards beat reporter Joshua Valdez.

Players like Edwards certainly have a say in what the competition committee does in the future. While it’s certainly something different to see four different games decide which team will win an exhibition contest, perhaps a new format like this just needs time to marinate.

Alas, this NBA All-Star weekend was very divisive; a good portion of the league’s fan base found the festivities very boring, including the All-Star Game. However, several players, such as the Timberwolves’ star, believe the new format has raised the stakes a bit and forced them to play with a little more energy – something the league will certainly take note of.
