Dwiane Wade reveals he was never asked to join the dunk contest

There was one thing Miami Heat legend Dwiane Wade wished he had in his Hall of Fame career during NBA All-Star Weekend. This included participating in a dunk contest at least once.

Wade shined as one of the most athletic and fastest guards during his prime years in the NBA with the Heat. He created memorable highlights at the rim, rarely shying away from fierce dunks against opposing teams.

Wade holds the record for most dunks by a guard in NBA history, with 1,098 career shots. Right behind him in that statistic are Kobe Bryant (1,001) and Vince Carter (941).

However, he never received an invitation to participate in the annual slam dunk contest during All-Star weekend during his career. Wade posted a Feb. 15 episode of The Timeout podcast, where he seemed frustrated that he never got the chance to participate.

“I’m going to name one person who has never been in a dunk contest, one of the greatest dunks in basketball. Flash. It’s me. Most dunks by a guard in the history of the game, never entered a dunk contest,” Wade said at the 0:45 mark.

“By the way, I’m the number one guard in NBA history, and I’ve never been asked to participate in a dunk … I don’t know if I ever would, because I’ve never been asked.

It would be intriguing to see what Dwiane Wade would attempt to dunk if given the opportunity to participate in a dunk contest. Despite his career-long absence from competition, he made up for it by wowing crowds across the country with his memorable highlights.

Wade played 16 years in the NBA from 2003 to 2019, most with the Heat. He won three championship titles along with 13 All-Star selections and eight All-NBA selections. He earned his place in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.

Wade made a strong impact on the game, especially on the Heat. He goes down as their most loyal and greatest player in franchise history, cementing himself as a legend.
