NBA All-Star Game: Anthony Edwards named MVP as Stars beat Strips
“It means a lot,” Edwards said of his MVP award. “I love Minnesota, and I know Minnesota loves me. I said I wasn’t going to put on a show for them, but I gave them a show.”
The Strips missed their first 10 shots of the final as the younger Stars team ran away with a 12-1 run. The Stars later added a 15-0 run for a 33-9 advantage as the Veterans were soundly beaten.
NBA all-time leader LeBron James (41), who was making his 22nd All-Star appearance, added five for the Strips.
In the Los Angeles Clippers’ opening game at the Intuit Dome, Edwards scored 13 points, but later wanted to highlight the performance of Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, who played on the World Team.
The Frenchman had 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks in his team’s 37-35 loss. “I’m not going to lie, Wemby set the tone,” Edwards said. “He came out hard and we had to go after it. We had to pick it up and we did.”
The new format was seen as a success after reviews of recent releases were poor. Former US President Barack Obama, who was on the court, said: “I know a lot of people were worried about the All-Star Game, not seeing that much effort. But we saw it.”
