Maxie’s simple reason why Team Stars are cracking old heads

The Philadelphia 76ersTyrese McKay maybe he didn’t come back with a good showing in the All-Star 3-point contest. However, the rest of the weekend was as ideal as it could have been, with Makey’s Team Stars emerges as the winner of the tournament.

And well, the player himself had a pretty clear reason for his team’s victory.

“We won because we are young and turn around!” he jokingly explained, according to the post on X from ClutchPoints.

Team Stars won the round-robin tournament, defeating Team World in the opener, narrowly falling to Team Stripes, and then dominating the championship rematch. Maxey’s best performance came in that final, where he scored nine points on 4-of-8 shooting, added three steals, and helped seal a decisive 47–21 victory.

During their time on the floor, Team Stars outscored Team Stripes by 22 points. The second game against the Stripes was more quiet statistically, as Maxey scored two points in nearly eight minutes during a close 42-40 loss that was decided by De’Aaron Fox’s 3-pointer.

However, the short 12-minute game structure meant that individual production was often limited, with Anthony Edwards and Cade Cunningham carrying the scoring load primarily. Maxey’s most impactful piece came in the title game.

He scored on multiple isolation drives, hit a deep 3-pointer after forcing a turnover, and made a key defensive stop on Jalen Brunson that led to a teammate’s 3-pointer. His burst helped the team build a 26–9 lead midway through the contest, a margin that ultimately decided the championship.

From a broader perspective, the weekend also reinforced Maxey’s growing status in the league. He entered the break ranked sixth in the NBA with 28.9 points per game, along with 6.8 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals.
