Norman Powell returns to the fold after an ‘A-plus’ All-Star experience
As Miami Heat forward Keshad Johnson wins the 2026 slam dunk contest during All-Star weekend, the team had additional representation from Norman Powell. With Heat star in Powell earns his first All-Star nodit was no doubt an emotional weekend for the fullback, who talked about his experience and shifting focus to turning the team around.
Powell has spoken time and time again about his goal of wanting to be a career All-Star as, after being looked down upon by many last year with the Los Angeles Clippers, he finally earned the honors in his first season in Miami. Leading the Heat with 23 points per game and bringing the team offensive punch Tyler HerroA season full of injuries, he earned his place.

In addition to participating in the All-Star Game, representing Jamaica in the new format team world, he also competed in the three-point battle, trying to retain the title in Miami after Hero won it last year. Even though he didn’t win it, he was “A-plus” weekend for Powell, who is now looking “in” to lead the Heat.
“The experience was amazing, no complaints,” Powell said, according to The Miami Herald. “Being able to participate in the whole weekend, the three-point contest and the All-Star game for the first time. I’m just enjoying myself and making memories with all the guys that I’ve gone up against and competed against and looked up to before I even got to the NBA. So this is an A-plus weekend for me.”
“As a leader, the first thing you have to do if you want to make a difference and be an example for the team and how we should play and what we want to go out and accomplish, you have to look within,” Powell said. “And so I’ve already had some thoughts and conversations with my coach … how I need to go out mentally and what I need to do to get this team on the right track.”
As part of the World Team, Powell played two games off the bench, going scoreless in the first but recording five points in the second. With Powell the 12th player in Heat history to be selected to the All-Star Game, the goal now is to turn to Miami, which is 29-27 and eighth in the Eastern Conference.
