Usman Dieng, three transfers and one opportunity
As he prepared to pull on a Thunder jersey to face the Spurs, Ousmane Dieng he found himself in the middle of the washing machine: NBA transfer world, hours before the trade deadline. You just have to listen to it to fully understand it.
“I was in San Antonio and got traded to the Hornets. So I stayed in a hotel room for three hours. Then the transfer to Chicago happened and I flew to Chicago.”, he says.
The Frenchman is therefore in Illinois to undergo a medical and get the green light to join the Bulls in Canada to face the Raptors. But “As soon as we took off, a transfer with Milwaukee followed”continues the Frenchman. “The Bulls were already in Toronto and I was on a plane to Toronto. It was crazy.”
A new trip is planned, going to Milwaukee and starting a new career, after several years in Oklahoma City. “It’s been crazy, but I’m excited to be here. I know the franchise has been trying to get me for a while and I’m looking forward to helping the team.”he said after already playing three games with the Bucks.
“rare pearl”
The first was shy, but the next two, against Orlando and Oklahoma City, were very good with 17 and 19 points. His 18 points on 57% 3-point shooting, 7 rebounds and 3 assists average in these two games before the cut, let’s imagine the level he can have when we give him minutes. A luxury he did not have with the current champion.
“He knows how to play and that’s the first thing we noticed”assures Doc Rivers. “We need him to play with confidence. We keep telling him to shoot and he’s doing it. It’s good for him. He’s been in the league for a while, he’s been waiting his turn, and now it’s his turn.”
“It’s Just Getting Started”says Bucks assistant coach Darwin Hamm when talking about Usman Dieng’s potential. “He’s so young. Look at his size, his athleticism, his intelligence, but also his passing, his finishing, his winning shots, his defense… We found a rare gem.”
Free this summer, the Frenchman is in a good position to approach this turnaround, with this change of team, like Gershon Jabuseleand now numerous possibilities. “I have a chance. I can show what I’m capable of” he points out. “I’m pretty versatile and can defend in several positions. I’ll do what the coaching staff asks. I’m here to help.”
