Sacramento Beam account ‘open for business’ after 15th straight loss

The purple beam over Sacramento used to be a symbol of victory and celebration, but it’s fair to say that things have gone ridiculously off-script. The Sacramento Kings stumbled to their 15th straight loss against the Orlando Magic, a 131-94 loss that did nothing to lift the franchise’s spirits.

And as a result, Sacramento Beam’s official account posted ‘open for business’ update to X, simply because it hasn’t been on since January 16, when they beat the Washington Wizards.

It was also Sacramento’s fourth straight win, their best streak of the season so far. Further, things could get even scarier, given that next is a five-game road trip that includes games against the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers.

Unveiled during the 2022–23 season, the Sacramento Beam is a multi-laser installation mounted atop the Golden 1 Center that fires a purple pillar into the sky after each Kings victory. It has since evolved into a civic ritual for fans and would be lit after every Kings victory.

Sacramento has since fallen to 12–45, the worst record in the NBA, and on pace to match its worst mark in the Sacramento era at 17–65. Skating is caused by injuries, with key players such as Domantas SabonisKeegan Murray, Zach LaVine and De’Andre Hunter are gone.

“I’ve been at my best here, and I’ve been at my worst here, so I know what they both look like, and our fans deserve more, and we’re going to get there. It’s about as painful as it gets. “The pain that I felt here is something that, you know, in my opinion, can affect your life in a lot of ways. Knowing you have the best team without getting there,” Doug Christie said after the game effectively summarizing crisis the Kings are currently in, according to Sactown Sports.

They now face the scrappy San Antonio Spurs in Austin and need a quick turnaround to turn their fortunes around.
