Joe Lacob on Draymond Green ‘never shopped’ for Giannis

With Kristaps Porzingis makes his Golden State Warriors debut after they were acquired at the february 5th trade deadline, they were also rumored to be involved in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes with the Milwaukee Bucks. As it is Warriors are looking for moves it could put them back on top, the pursuit of Antetokounmpo was inevitable, even though he owns Joe Lacob rejects reports of what has been offered.

According to reports ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel and ESPN’s Golden State beat reporter Anthony Slater, the star Draymond Green was involved in negotiations for Antetokounmpo. However, general manager Mike Dunleavy would say Green was never offered, and Lacob doubled down on that assumption, saying “he was never discussed in commerce.”

“Mike was 100% correct in what he said,” Lacob said, via The San Francisco Standard. “But the truth is, the way these things are, you don’t just play around with names unless you get serious. We’ve never really engaged in any big deals to the point where you get into specific names. People can look at a list and make assumptions about who might or might not go if you have a certain person.”

While it is The Warriors are hoping for a deep run into the playoffsthere’s no question the team is at a disadvantage with Jimmy Butler suffering a season-ending injury earlier and the continued absence of Stephen Curry. Green has been a key part of Golden State’s dynasty for many seasons, but his name was reportedly floated because of his salary that made sense in a potential deal, but Lacob said he was “never shopped in any way.”

“He’s a key person in our franchise. You don’t trade Draymond Green simply or easily,” Lacob said. “You do it if you have to, and you get tremendous value and you improve your team. Even Draymond said he understands that. You have to look at these things. But his name was never specifically discussed with another team. And that’s true.”

Either way, it remains to be seen if the Warriors continue their pursuit of Antetokounmpo in the offseason and if Green will be involved then.
