Adelman spent much of his childhood in Portland as he is the son of former Trail Blazers coach Rick Adelman, who also played for the team before. The Trail Blazers have been in Portland for more than 55 years, but the pending approval of the $4 billion-plus acquisition of Tom Dundon could change things.
The arena’s infrastructure limitations, combined with new ownership and the fact that the long-term lease expires in 2030, have brought uncertainty about the future. The Trail Blazers are the only major men’s professional sports franchise in the region in leagues such as the NBA, NFL, MLB or NHL, adding to the importance of the team staying in the city.
However, an immediate relocation seems unlikely. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver indicated that relocation is “not on the table now,” although the wording leaves the future uncertain, according to VRAL News.
