Cam Thomas, Microwave Milwaukee

cam thomasCompared to Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams Doc Rivers, Cam Thomas was also nicknamed “the microwave” by his new teammates. A nickname he lived up to last night by scoring 16 straight points in the second quarter against Pelican ! And yet Doc Rivers posted it…

“Cam came in and he was amazing” the Bucks coach confirms. “He looked at us like we were crazy when we took him off, but he’s on a minutes restriction. We kept that in mind in case we needed four or five minutes at the end. But I really like the way he’s playing.”

Author of 27 points in 21 minutes, the former Nets scorer is the ideal wild card, but that’s why we learn that his playing time is limited. According to Doc Rivers, it’s because of his hamstrings, an injury sustained against the Nets.

“It was a hamstring injury, but it’s fine. I’ve been fine for months.” assures the player. “Since we were just coming back from the break, they didn’t want to risk it. We were leading by twenty points, so there was no reason to push. But I’m fine, I’m ready, in great shape, I feel great. The game is over, there was no point in going back to the field. That’s all.”

And how does he analyze his heatstroke and his ability to hit hard in short bursts in general?

“It’s about reading the defense and taking what they give me. Don’t force it, don’t settle for outside shots. A lot of players nowadays settle for 3-point shots, but I want to put pressure on the defense and force them to defend me.” he answers. “You have to make someone defend you. Getting into the game, drawing fouls, forces the defense to stay alert. That’s when everything becomes possible: 3-point shooting, mid-range shooting, free throws. I’m just trying to be a threat everywhere on the court.”

Listening to him makes it even easier for the Bucks. “Everybody’s a threat on the court. It’s a pleasure to play with guys like that. Everybody can shoot, shoot, so it makes my life easier. We play for each other, we pass the ball, we play together. That’s everything you look for in a basketball game.”
