Jalen Suggs injury status against Suns

Suggs has already missed 20 of the Magic’s first 54 games this season and is in danger of missing another. The 24-year-old hasn’t missed a game since Jan. 22, but is listed as questionable against the Suns as he deals with back spasms.

Suggs was often listed on Orlando’s injury reports as a precaution against returning to the field. Back spasms are often minor, suggesting he will be on the field Saturday afternoon.

The Magic are already short after Franz Wagner suffered a setback in his recovery from injury, forcing Anthony Black into the starting lineup. Losing Suggs would likely leave Jamal Mosley without his best on-ball defender giving rushing Jevon Carter the start.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Suggs take another spot, considering he’s already missed nearly half the season and the Magic have been hit hard by the injury bug. But given the nature of his injury and Orlando’s current situation, expect him to play.

Grayson Allen’s injury status against the Magic

Unlike Suggs, Allen hasn’t played in more than two weeks. He played his last game against the Golden State Warriors on February 5, when he fell awkwardly on his leg late in the game. Allen avoided serious injury, but unsurprisingly has been sidelined ever since.

Allen remained sidelined even after the All-Star break, missing the Suns’ game against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday. The team initially said they would re-evaluate Allen after the break, but nothing seems to have changed.

However, listing him as questionable is a step in the right direction, indicating that a return could be imminent. If he can make a comeback against the Magic, it would be a near miracle if the gruesome injury only cost him four games.

With Devin Booker also out, Phoenix was forced to work without its starting backcourt, leading to Jordan Ott turning to Jaylen Green, who is coming off a 26-point game against the Spurs. Green started with Colin Gillespie, who will likely be the backcourt tandem Saturday against the Magic, barring Allen’s miraculous return.
