The latest CBA proposal contains an interesting housing guarantee

By this point in the normal VNBA timeline, the free agency period would be over. Most of the roster moves would be completed, leaving only the draft after the NCAA season ends in early April. But everything is currently on hold as negotiations between the VNBA and the players are ongoing regarding the new CBA. With both parties exchange proposals back and forth latest from The WNBA has a partial housing guarantee, according to ESPN’s Alek Philippou.
The latest VNBA CBA proposal, sent to the players’ union on Friday, included housing guarantees for all players for the upcoming season. Also, part of the proposal would be to phase out housing requirements over the next few seasons.
Until 2027 and 2028, only players with a qualifying minimum salary, as well as new rookies with no prior VNBA experience, would be granted accommodation by the league. Housing guarantees were one of the main issues at the forefront of what players were looking for.
Under the proposal, the league would have to provide players with one-bedroom apartments for the duration of the regular season.
Both the league and the players were essentially at a stalemate as far as negotiations were concerned. Not only has the usual free agency period been skipped, but two expansion drafts are still set to take place at some point with two new franchises in the Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire set to debut in 2026.
Despite the ongoing impasse, the VNBA has set the opening day of the 2026 season as May 8.
