Charles Barkley has a long losing streak with the Harlem Globetrotters

It was a difficult season for Sacramento Kingseven by their standards.

With Saturday’s 139-122 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, The Kings went winless in the last 16 games, which lasted more than a month. And Charles Barkley, if he ever spoke his mind, certainly he didn’t want to hold back when he criticized Sacramento for its terrible play, whether it was 15 or 16 straight.

“You can’t play 15 good teams in a row … Come on, man,” Barkley said on “Inside the NBA,” via Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. “These teams here are doing Harlem Globetrotter things (against them). Come on, man. These guys are doing Globetrotter things here.”

It’s certainly true that the Kings haven’t played 15 — or now 16 — good teams in a row. In fact, before losses to the Spurs and Orlando Magic, Sacramento played the New Orleans Pelicans and Utah Jazz, both of whom are much closer to competing for the No. 1 overall pick than a playoff spot. The result, despite Utah and New Orleans having the third- and second-worst records in the Western Conference, respectively, was a pair of failures.

The Pelicans beat the Kings 120-94 on February 9th. Two days later, Sacramento lost to the Jazz in similar fashion, 121-93. During this losing streak, the Kings haven’t played any team more than once, meaning they’ve lost to over half of the NBA in just over a month.

Of course, that’s acceptable for Sacramento, which has its own first-round draft pick this year. If not, the loss of three players to season-ending surgery — Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis, and De’Andre Hunter — in the last few weeks would be the absolute worst possible news. But for the Kings, it only further solidifies that they will have among the best odds in the NBA draft lottery.

The kings, who recently installed a a new record for the longest losing streak in franchise history, they could add to that on Monday night when they play the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a five-game road trip.
