Tom Izzo called a team meeting after an ugly win over Ohio State

Michigan State beat Ohio State 66-60 on Sunday. It was the second consecutive victory, but a second straight ugly win for Michigan State.

After the game, head coach Mike Izzo spoke to the media, expressing his frustration with the team’s performance, according to Emmett Matasowski of Spartan Shadows.

“Ohio State did a better job than us. I’m really disappointed in our team. I can’t sugar coat it. Unforced turnovers, we had one 10 seconds into the game,” Izzo opened the press conference.

Michigan State had ten turnovers in the game, leading to eight Ohio points. Bruce Thornton forced two turnovers, dropped 32 points and added four rebounds.

“The whole game plan was to keep Bruce Thornton out of the game, and that didn’t happen,” Izzo continued.

Ohio State dominated the game against Michigan State. They scored 34 points against the Spartans’ 26 points. Izzo took the blame for some of Thornton’s success overall.

“We found a way and then we missed free throws and we didn’t guard. I bet everybody knew Thornton was going to take the ball and drive it, we just didn’t respond. I’m disappointed in myself, I didn’t make the team,” Izzo added.

Ohio State had a three-point lead at halftime and quickly built a six-point lead early in the second half. That’s when Michigan State started to turn things around.

“The players did a better job, it wasn’t better coaching,” Izzo added about the change in the second half.

Michigan State is now 22-5 on the seasonand 12-4 in conference play. They will be back on the court Thursday against Purdue.
