Johnny Broom suffered a torn meniscus during a G-League game

At the time when Philadelphia 76ers facing multiple major absences, including Joel Embiid’s and Paul George’s suspension, have been dealt another injury blow. As the 76ers selected him 35th overall in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft. Johnny Broom played only 11 gameseven sent to the Delaware Blue Coats on a G League assignment.

However, according to Forbes Sports NBA Insider Adam Zagoria, Broome did a significant setback was inflicted after the Philadelphia 76ers confirmed that the 23-year-old center suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee during a recent G League appearance. The injury occurred in a loss to the Maine Celtics, ending a breakout performance that saw him score 27 points in just 23 minutes before leaving.

Although the organization did not provide a timeline for his recovery, Broome is now ready to consult with medical professionals “to determine the next steps in his treatment plan.” Broome logged just 55 NBA minutes in 11 appearances with Philadelphia, scoring 10 points on 4-for-19 shooting while operating out of Nick Nurse’s primary rotation.

However, it is impossible to ignore his development production. In roughly two dozen G League contests, the 6-foot-10 big man averaged around 22 points, eight rebounds and more than three assists per game, along with 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per appearance.

The outstanding performance returned in January against the College Park Skyhawks, when Broome erupted for an incredible 50 points and 17 rebounds in a 155-140 victory, proving his immense potential. However, as things stand, the focus will be on a quick recovery at a time when the 76ers are already thin in their frontcourt, especially with Embiid’s ongoing struggles.

Nonetheless, despite his injuries, Broome was used sparingly and last played for Philadelphia in a 138-89 loss to the New York Knicks in early February.
