Nikola Jokic ‘concerned’ as Denver struggles in the clutch

The Denver NuggetsThe late-game woes continued Sunday as a team missed another opportunity in crunch time during a 128-117 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Despite Nikola Jokic Posting 35 points, 20 rebounds and 12 assists, the Nuggets just couldn’t execute when it mattered most.

The Nuggets have lost six of their last nine games and their star player he doesn’t mince his words.

“I’m certainly worried because we’re losing games,” said Jokic. “We’re losing games and not creating open looks. So that’s something we have to change. … I don’t know what it is, but we have to figure it out.”

After the loss, running back Christian Brown pointed to a lack of physicality and positioning as the root cause of Denver’s struggles.

“I think a lot of things this year just didn’t hold our positions. It wasn’t tight enough,” Brown said. “It has nothing to do with our process going forward. It has nothing to do with anything other than we have to keep our seats.”

The Warriors took advantage of Denver’s defensive lapses, with Brandin Podziemski erupted for 12 points in the final five minutes to seal the victory.

Now 36-22, the Nuggets face a critical stretch ahead of them. After a few days of rest, they will face the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. Then on Friday, they will face the Oklahoma City Thunder, who currently have the best record in the league.

As the playoffs approach and the Nuggets look to maintain their legitimate contender status, they will need to find a way to close out these games.
