Dejounte Murray announces return from Achilles injury

The New Orleans Pelicans have been pretty healthy for the past few weeks, and they could be getting more reinforcements soon. Dejounte Murray, who did not play since last year due to his Achilles injury, he could be making his return in the Pelicans’ next game, according to Will Guillory of the Athletics.

“Dejounte Murray says he believes tomorrow will be his first game back from Achilles injury,” Guillory wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Murray is making a steady recovery, and will now bring much-needed help at point guard. Jordan Poole just returned to the rotation two games ago after having a couple of shutouts, and rookie Jeremiah Fears has taken the bulk of the minutes while starting most of the season.

The Pelicans will likely slowly bring Murray back, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up in the starting lineup at some point in the second half of the season. Without a first-round pick for next season, the Pelicans have no reason to contend, so they’ll try to win as many games as they can. They have talent, but they haven’t been able to put it all together this season, which is why they are near the bottom of the Western Conference.

It’s been a a good chunk of games for Zion Williamsonand this may be the healthiest he’s been in a while. Unfortunately, Trey Murphy III has missed the last few games due to injury, but head coach James Borrego is optimistic that he won’t be out for long.

If the Pelicans can manage to win a stretch of games where everyone is healthy, it will be interesting to see how many wins they can muster before the end of the season.
