“Antisocial loner” Derrin Peterson sends another message to all his haters

No. 14 Kansas basketball there is quite a player and personality in Darrin Peterson. He averages 19.5 points per game and shoots 47.2% from the field. However, he received criticism for a perceived lack of passion for the game.

He played 11 games and occasionally pulled out of games. On Monday, Peterson retorted to those criticisms after Kansas pulled out a 69-56 win over No. 5 Houston, per VIBV’s Andrew Lind.

“Somebody’s had something to say probably after every game this year, so I don’t pay attention to it anymore. I’ve been an antisocial loner my whole life.”

Peterson is a 6-foot-6 freshman guard from Canton, Ohio. His supposed lack of passion for the game has he even drew criticism from Kansas fans. On February 14 against Iowa State, Peterson exited the game with cramps after 18 minutes of play. It stunned both the fans and head coach Bill Self.

Interestingly, Peterson had former Indiana head coach Tom Crean come to his defense.

Peterson is already overwhelmed with pressures and expectations. A recent USA Today Mock Draft has Peterson as choice no. 2 by the Atlanta Hawks.

However, he played less than 25 minutes in 7 of 16 games due to ankle and tendon injuriesaccording to Myron Medcalf of ESPN.

Peterson scored 14 points and played 30 minutes on Monday. In total, he is averaging 27.4 minutes a game this season.

On Saturday, the Jayhawks will hit the road against the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats. They will play Arizona State next Tuesday. Then, Kansas will close out the season against Kansas State at home on March 7.
