Doc Rivers credits ‘big response’ for comeback win over Heat

The Milwaukee Bucks may have had to deal with Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors to start February, but they played good basketball amid the noise. They are 7-3 so far this calendar month, with their seventh win coming against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night, and Kevin Porter Jr. leads in a 128-117 victory.

The game was close the whole way, with the Bucks doing just enough to keep up with the Heat. But toward the end of the game, Milwaukee got down on the defensive end of the floor and put the lid on the basket – going on an 11-0 run to score the games and move to 25-31 on the season.

Bucks coach Doc Rivers he sees a significant change in the way his players behave, and he is proud of the shift in the mentality that his team went through.

“This was a big response for us. This is what we haven’t done this year. We’re going to have a good stretch of the game, then we’re going to lose, and then the next game we’re going to let it go again. And there were stretches tonight where we could have let it go and we didn’t,” Rivers said, via Eric Nemo of the Athletics.

Rivers seems most comfortable coaching an understaffed/undertalented team, helping them punch above their weight. What else would explain their recent surge in form?

Rivers led an impressive 2019 Los Angeles Clippers team that lacked a true star and still gave the Golden State Warriors a scare in the first round of the playoffs. And now, Rivers puts shorthand Bucks in positions to succeed. He can convey a nervous energy at the helm, especially when the team is under pressure to win
