Jamal Murray was in “terrible” shape before leaving the Celtics game due to illness

The 2025-26 season continues to be as relentless as ever on the injury front for Denver Nuggets. Most of their key guys have missed a lot of time with injuries, and on Wednesday night it was Jamal Murray swerved for repairs with an illness, having to leave their matchup against the Boston Celtics early.

The good news is that the Nuggets still took care of business against the Celtics at home, posting a 103-84 win over one of the hottest teams in the league, and the team has proven time and time again that it can handle the absence of its key players.

But it seems like Murray never should have suited up for the Nuggets that night. After the game, head coach David Adelman revealed that Murray had already been heavily medicated to try to get him healthy enough to play, but he just couldn’t get through for the whole game.

“He looked terrible. They gave him all the medicine. It didn’t help. All kinds of physical things were going on,” Adelman said, via Vinnie Benedetto of the Denver Gazette.

Murray deserves credit for coming through and trying to play despite the illness he had. But the Nuggets must prioritize the long game.

The battle for positioning in the West is as fierce as ever, but there’s no reason to be risking life and limb during a regular season game.

Before leaving the game due to illness, Murray scored just two points in eight minutes of play. The Nuggets have the day off before facing the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road, though it remains to be seen if Murray will be healthy enough by then.
