The strangulation of OKC on the carrier no. 1 seriously threatens the Spurs

The The Oklahoma City Thunder are doing a solid job to stay afloat despite their injury absences, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams. Unfortunately, that stopped on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistonsdespite a valiant effort.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs they won their 10th straight with a comeback victory over the Toronto Raptors, despite a relatively quiet performance from superstar Victor Wembanyama.
With the win, the Spurs moved to within two games of Oklahoma City for the second seed in the Western Conference, a feat that seemed borderline impossible when the Thunder ran off to start the regular season 24-1.
“The Thunder just suffered their 15th loss, more than they had all last season. It’s a sharp turnaround for a team that opened the season 24-1,” noted ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.
Of course, injuries are a big part of why the Thunder have slipped a bit, but even before Gilgeous-Alexander went down with an abdominal strain, Oklahoma City was already showing some signs of slipping, and the team lost four of five regular season games against San Antonio this season.
Meanwhile, the Spurs are 5.5 games ahead of the Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets for second place, meaning San Antonio and Oklahoma City will likely be the top two seeds in the West when all is said and done.
Many are already anticipating a Western Conference Finals matchup between the two teams, which will reignite the rivalry between the teams from when Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook wore Thunder jerseys, while Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard played for the Spurs in the mid-2010s.
Fortunately for the Thunder, they won’t see the Spurs again this season until that potential playoff matchup, if it ever comes.
