Edwards’ $25,000 fine prompts a hilarious response from Adidas

Earlier on Thursday, the NBA announced the punishment Minnesota Timberwolves‘ Anthony Edwards the sum of $25,000 for throwing a game ball with force into spectators stands at halftime of the match against the Portland Trail Blazers. The incident occurred during Tuesday’s 124-121 road win over Portland, in which ANT scored a game-high 34 points.
Almost immediately after the penalty was announced, Adidas spoke up hilarious answer on X in the form of a promotional video the 24-year-old’s latest sneaker, the Anthony Edwards 2.

The clip opens with ANT’s accountant handing a bag of money to the player.
“Okay ANT, I’m putting aside 430k this season in case you have accidents, disagreements or slip ups. Let’s take it easy this year,” he said.
But Edwards had a completely different idea.
“You really think I’m going to slow down now that I’m up to 2s? Man, look at them. See that? That’s the difference between a floater and a poster set. They’ve got things to keep me steady and strong too,” ANT explains, before being told to speak to his bookkeeper.
“I just don’t think I’m going to slow down anytime soon, so you might as well double down,” Edwards says in response, according to an Adidas post on X.
And well, the punishment proves just that. The incident happened at the end of the second quarter; after grabbing a rebound off a Portland fumble, Edwards faked a full-court shot and then put the ball away after the buzzer sounded.
The ball hit the observer near the basket and now led to a penalty. ANT’s 34 points were the result of a 17-35 shooting split, which included five 3-pointers.
Regardless, there’s no doubt that Edwards will be fully focused on preparing for the Los Angeles Clippers, who the Timberwolves play next. The punishment is undoubtedly unfortunate, but it provided him with an ideal opportunity to promote his new sneakers.
