Tyrese Maxey credits Joel Embiid for getting past Allen Iverson

The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Miami Heat 124-117 on Thursday night. In the win, McKay led all Sixers with 28 points, despite going a poor 9-for-25 from the floor. However, the The 76ers quarterback made history, leapfrogging Allen Iverson for the most three-pointers made in franchise history.

Entering the game, he had knocked down 882 career 3-pointers, three fewer than Iverson. He knocked down five in the win, going 5-for-12 from deep, including four in the first quarter.

After the victory, Maxi shared his thoughts on overcoming Iverson.

“It’s just a blessing, honestly. I’m just happy, man. I’m blessed,” Maxey said humbly.

“Thank God. I thank the 76ers organization for choosing me, for believing in me and believing in me… Thanks to my coaches, Dr. (Rivers), (Nick) the nurse, they gave me a lot of confidence.

“Last is my teammates, man. Everybody… I called Tobias (Harris) before. My rookie year, he told me I was a great shooter even though I didn’t shoot as well as I wanted to. Lastly, Joel (Embiid). He’s been on me about shooting 10 threes a game since my second or third year.”

After a few relatively stagnant years in Philly, Mackey left like a rocket this season. He is averaging better than 29 points per game, good enough for fourth in the NBA. But he turned into more than just a deadly marksman.

The 76ers point guard is averaging nearly seven assists, four rebounds and, perhaps most impressively, two steals per game.
