When Hell’s Siren Disrupts the Pistons – Cavaliers Matchup

Mermaid Pistons Knights

A scene that was unusual to say the least interrupted the meeting between the Pistons and the Cavaliers Friday night at Little Caesars Arena.

With 7 minutes left in the third quarter and Detroit leading 65-64, a technical incident led to a nearly 20-minute suspension. At the end of the time-out, the siren that was supposed to call the teams back to the floor went off… non-stop. The shrill noise echoed continuously for several minutes, plunging the public and players into a situation that was as uncomfortable as it was unusual. All the more embarrassing that the meeting was broadcast on a national network…

The shot clock and the central scoreboard stopped working very quickly. The teams first returned to their benches, while the staff in the room frantically tried to solve the problem. After a few minutes of waiting, the players were even invited to return to the field for warm-up, without the situation being fully resolved yet.

Loud sound for 13 minutes!

Finally, it was necessary to completely cut the scoreboard suspended above the floor in order to interrupt the siren, which caused ironic applause from the public. According to the Speaker of the House, John Mason, the cause of the malfunction was an electrical shock. The scorer’s desk then used a hand horn to allow play to resume.

The referees briefly gathered the two coaches, Jay Bickerstaff and Kenny Atkinson, in the middle of the field to explain that the match would continue without the main scoreboard.

In total, the siren will sound for 13 minutes, and the interruption will last 18 minutes!
