Austin Reeves applauds Luka Doncic’s ‘no presents’

Luka Dončić can be a face Los Angeles Lakersbut that doesn’t absolve him of some classic locker room banter. After that The Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 129-101 on Saturday night, the birthday boy decided to air some grievances regarding his teammates’ gift-giving habits, or lack thereof.

During an on-court interview after a dominant 26-point performance, Doncic, who turned 27 on Friday, jokingly called out the team. “No one has given me a present yet, it’s crazy,” the superstar said the guard with a smile.

The jokes didn’t stop there. Doc Austin Reaves tried later to handle his media duties in the locker room, Doncic decided to call it quits by throwing two towels at the third-year guard. Reeves didn’t miss a beat, laughing back, “I actually brought you a present, you bloody idiot!”

Easy exchange highlights the growing chemistry in Los Angeles that is finally translating into the win column. The Lakers weren’t just talking about the big game; they played one. Along with Doncic, Reaves provided a big spark off the bench. He finished the night with 18 points and three assists, shooting an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor.

DeAndre Ayton anchored the defense and dominated the boards, posting four points and 10 rebounds to help the Lakers outscore a Warriors team led by Guy Santos’ 14 points.

A win fixes everything, and for a struggling Lakers team with a lot of outside noise latelyseeing their two most popular players trade barbs and towels is a great sign. It remains to be seen whether Reaves really has the gift that awaits Luka, but a 28-point away win over a rival is a pretty solid start.
