Jared McCain’s retelling of Daryl Morey trade call will enrage 76ers fans again

Since Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey‘s trade deadline, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain is making progress with his new team. McCain finished with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting off the bench in the Thunder’s 116-108 win against the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday. He also recounted the story of how he learned about his trade and a short conversation he had with Morey.

McCain says Moray he was not rudeonly briefly, which is usual, he said, according to The Stein Line’s Jake Fisher.

“I don’t think he meant anything bad about it,” McCain said of Morey. “I just take it as: That’s his job. And if he feels it’s the best decision (for the organization), then that’s his decision. But obviously I’m going to have confidence in myself.”

McCain has not returned to Philly since being traded from the 76ers.

“I never saw my house in Philadelphia again,” McCain added, “which is kind of bullshit.”

The second-year guard joined the Thunder while the 76ers were on the road.

“It’s pretty sad,” McCain said, “that it changes on the trip.

After scoring a season-high 21 points in a 105-86 win against the Brooklyn Nets, McCain has scored 20+ points in three games since joining the Thunder.

After a 116-108 win against the Bulls on Tuesday, head coach Mark Daigneault discussed Thunder guard Jared McCain and how he adapted to his new environment. Daigneault turned to McCain reliability in such a short period of time since joining Grom.

“I think the word is ‘consistency.’ I just think he has a really consistent everything. He’s a consistent guy day in and day out. He’s a great worker. He plays a consistent game; he never gets off his game. He’s always ready to play,” Daigneault said. “I put him in with 4.4 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and he kind of came off the bench, came in and executed what we needed to do in an eight-point play with four seconds left in the fourth quarter.”

“When you do that, you put yourself in a position to be successful. He’s done a really good job of that so far, he played great tonight. He didn’t shoot well early, and he came through in the second half.”

With Thunder All-Stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jaylen Williams, Isaiah Hartenstein and Ajay Mitchell sidelined with injuries, McCain’s 20 points off the bench led the defending champions to their third straight victory.
