Former player insists Dylan Harper is on par with Cooper Flagg

The The Rookie of the Year conversation has begunand the conversation was centered around that Cooper Flagg, Knuppel couldand VJ Edgecombe. That doesn’t take away from what other rookies are doing around the league, because there are some who are really playing well. One of those beginners is Dylan Harper.

Chandler Parsons recently showed love that the San Antonio Spurs rookie, and while he doesn’t think he’s in the Rookie of the Year conversation, he thinks he has a solid career ahead of him.

“If you put Dylan Harper on the Mavs or the Charlotte (Hornets), he’s probably averaging the exact same numbers, if not better,” Parsons said on Run it Back. “He’s that good. … This scenario of him being on a good team almost diminishes his chances of winning (ROTI). His opportunity isn’t there; he’s playing less minutes, playing behind guys like Fox and Castle, where Conn and Cooper have the ultimate green light and are playing on bad teams.”

Harper is in a different situation than Flegg, putting up big numbers for the Mavericks as essentially the team’s No. 1 option. Knuppel played a solid role for the Hornets, but they are not one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

As for Harper, he plays behind several guards, but still contributes to the Spurs, as they are one of the best teams in the Western Conference. Harper definitely deserves his flowers for how he’s handled himself with the Spurs, but it won’t be the Rookie of the Year trophy.

For him, he’s probably hoping to get a shot at an NBA championship at the end of the season, because he’ll play a role in helping them get there.
