A Clippers insider floats the idea of trading Anfernee Simmons to the Celtics
So far it has been the 2025-26 season straight out of the Los Angeles Clippers’ worst nightmares. The list they compiled is old, slow and in ruins. They enter their Thursday night contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder 6-20 on the season, and what they will face is the reminder of the unprotected 2026 first-round pick they lost in the fateful 2019 Paul George trade.
At this point, it might be best for the Clippers to just accept the truth and blow it — they’re the sunk cost that is their 2026 first-rounder be damned. But recent reports indicate they still don’t want to trade away their key players, such as Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Ivica Zubac, suggesting they’ll try to salvage what’s left of their 2025-26 campaign.
To that end, ClutchPoints Clippers insider Tomer Azarly suggestedon Clutch Scoops, that LA could end up benefiting from the pursuit of the Boston Celtics point guard Anfernee Simmonswho has struggled on the bench in Beantown so far.
“The Clippers, with the loss of Chris Paul, the loss of Bradley Beal, have struggled at the point guard position behind James Harden,” Azarly said. “They don’t have a shot maker behind James and Kawhi. Anferni Simmons, on an expiring contract, could he be a guy that makes sense for them?”

What would a potential Anfernee Simmons trade for the Clippers look like?

If the Clippers really intend to try to get back into the playoff picture, trading the Cogs to the Celtics for a Simmons-led package might not be too smart. But Boston has reportedly shown interest in trade for Zubac, so there may be scope for a trade there.
But maybe a package built around Bogdan Bogdanovic and Brook Lopez would be enough for the Celtics, especially considering how much Simmons has struggled this year.
