A playoff-flavored loss for the Blazers
The match against Spurs was very important for Blazers. Placed in perhaps the most difficult group, with San Antonio, but especially Denver, Houston and Golden State, the Oregon players still had the match ball. Because if he succeeded, that was a ticket to the quarter-finals.
It would be a hell of a performance for a still-fragile team that has a lot to learn from the work Damian Lillard’s shadow. Except he failed, with the success of the Texans and De’Aaron Fox’s 37 points, synonyms for elimination. But the experience of encountering a certain question remains.
“It was like a taste of a playoff game”, compare Danny Avdia. “I don’t have that experience either, not much, but it was a good test for us. It’s disappointing to lose, but it was a learning setback. We’ll be in this position in the future and it’s good to experience it. Obviously we wanted to win, but it’s a great test for the years to come.”
The lesson to be learned is that you have to limit mistakes in such important matches. “There were a lot of things we did wrong. We didn’t block the rebound in the beginning, we lost silly balls, missed free throws and open shots. We passed too quickly in the second half.”states Toumani Camara.
Preparation for a possible “play-in”
“It’s not a loss like any other. We’re not in the tournament anymore, but for a lot of kids, they can learn to win and fight in these moments, in every possession.”adds Tiago Splitter.
The regular season is still long with ailing but ambitious teams – the Mavericks, the Clippers – who could wake up, but for now the Blazers are on the wagon to make the playoffs. As a reminder, the franchise has been deprived of an interesting spring and the first round of the playoffs against the Nuggets since 2021.
“We don’t have playoff experience, but I can see the potential of this team. We’re so young. Even if we lose, it’s very nice to play with these guys.”assures Danny Avdija. “We don’t blow up. We fight. Everyone wants to win. That’s what makes the team special. We lose, but we learn, we grow.”
