Adam Jiříček scored an unreal winner in overtime for the Czech Republic at the World Junior Championship

The The NHL season has resumed after a short Christmas break. However, the season is not the only form of hockey at the moment. The 2026 IIHF World Junior Tournament kicked off on Boxing Day, and we’ve already seen some exciting moments. on monday, St. Louis Blues Prospect Adam Jiricek provided one such moment.

Jiříček and the Czech Republic were in a fierce battle with Finland in the first stages of the World Junior Championship. Regulation could not separate the two nations, forcing an overtime period. With less than 90 seconds left, the puck found its way to Jiricek’s stick. And a former first round pick of the Blues performed an unreal move to get the game.

The win is big for the Czechs, who are now tied with Canada for second in Group B. The Finns are certainly less than pleased with Monday’s defeat. However, even after the defeat, they remain at the top of Group B.

Jiricek, as mentioned, is a former first-round pick of the Blues from the 2024 NHL Draft. He was once considered the top prospect in that class. Unfortunately, he battled injuries during his draft season. He fell to the 16th pick, even though he was considered a top-10 talent when healthy.

Jiricek has yet to make his NHL debut. After playing in his native Czech Republic, he moved to North America when he was drafted. He spent the past two seasons with the OHL’s Brantford Bulldogs. He is making big strides this year. The Blues prospect has scored 10 goals and 29 points in 25 games, doubling his offensive output from last season in two fewer games.
