Adam Silver makes his feelings clear when he goes down after Jazz, Pacers penalties

After that The NBA fined the Utah Jazz and the Indiana Pacers over the tanks in an attempt to send a message to the rest of the league, the NBA commissioner Adam Silver addressed the topic during his press conference at All-Star Media Day on Saturday. The association fined the Pacers $100,000, but fined the Jazz $500,000 for “conduct detrimental to the league.”

Silver says it’s the NBA exploring every measure in hopes of mitigating teams from intentionally losing games to improve their chances in the upcoming draft, including forfeiting future draft picks.

“Every possible remedy to stop this behavior is now being discussed,” Silver replied.

The Jazz lost to the Orlando Magic 120-117 in the fourth quarter and beat the Miami Heat 115-111. In the 131-122 victory, the Pacers removed Pascal Siakam in the fourth quarter.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver will continue to monitor the teams’ approach with the Jazz and Pacers as two examples of what can happen to other NBA teams for giving in.

The owner of jazz Ryan Smith responded with a hefty $500,000 fine on social media, referencing the NBA’s decision, highlighting his team’s recent win against the Heat. Despite the Jazz’s victory, the association still penalized Utah for benching its stars in its narrow four-point win against the Heat, to which Smith he replied on his X, formerly Twitter.

“Agree to disagree…Also, we won a game in Miami and got penalized? That makes sense…” Smith said. “The results-oriented response is sure to draw derision from the basketball-watching world. Utah’s win last Monday is more an indictment of the Heat than a testament to its own efforts.”

The Jazz lost three of their last five games before the All-Star break.
