Adam Silver reveals the limits required by the league for certain NBA bets

The 2025-26 The NBA season is underway on Tuesday night with a game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets about what will happen evening for Oklahoma City. The NBA has faced criticism during the offseason for a number of different issues, including the growing number of services fans must have to watch games and the rise of gambling taking over the league’s advertising and partnerships.

Recently, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stopped by ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show and talked about how the league wants to reduce its association with betting.

“I think you have to watch the amount of promotion and the amount of advertising around it. We’ve also pulled back, it’s not completely in our control, but we’ve asked some of our partners to pull back some of the bets. Especially when it comes to two-way players. Guys who don’t have the same share of competition,” Silver said, per Pat McAfee on Twitter.

“Where it’s too easy to manipulate something that otherwise seems small and unimportant to the overall result. Maybe a couple of rebounds that a player gets or whatever,” he added.

However, Silver admitted that “We accept that betting is legal in about 35 states now in the United States. It’s unlikely to go away. There should probably be more regulation, frankly. It might be surprising to hear from me, I wish there was more regulation, frankly.”

It may indeed come as a surprise to many fans that Silver is taking a stance on withdrawing gambling from the NBA world given the vast amount of partnerships the league and its television partners have with various sportsbooks, which has drawn complaints from fans. The NBA has also seen several of its players targeted by gambling investigations in recent seasons.

It certainly doesn’t seem like the problem is going away anytime soon.
