Alperen Sengun admitted to being ‘sloppy’ after a 39-point night against the Pacers

Alperen Sengun didn’t have the best of Januarys, as he struggled to find consistency after returning from several absences in late December and early last month. But The Houston Rockets star seems to have found his footing with a huge game to kick off the calendar month of February. He had 39 points, 16 rebounds and five assists to lead the Rockets to a 118-114 victory over an Indiana Pacers team that is more competitive than their record would indicate.

Sengun seems to take his All-Star hype to heart; he will miss the festivities (barring a last-minute injury replacement spot) despite averaging 21.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.3 assists per contest. All the Rockets star wants is, though improve from now on, which is what he intends to do after enduring what he called a “sloppy” month of January.

“January is in the past now. February is the month so I have to wake up. I was sloppy last month, it’s a new month and I just need to dominate every game,” Sengun said to ESPN’s Vanessa Richardson, via @BradeaukNBA on X (formerly Twitter).

Will the Rockets get a boost before the trade deadline?

There’s an inevitable feeling around the Houston Rockets that adding a point guard might be necessary to get the best out of this roster. Fred VanVleet will be out for the foreseeable future with a torn ACL, and adding someone who can dictate the tempo of the game and orchestrate the team’s offense could help.

It is not entirely clear, however how inclined the Rockets are to do such a thing. They seem to be happy with the team they have and still have room for improvement. Sengun could be ready for a big February, especially if Kevin Durant has to miss more time for personal reasons.
