An Antetokounmpo trade is not out of reach for the Cavaliers

The biggest story in the NBA right now is what’s going to happen Giannis Antetokounmpo and whether he will be traded by the NBA Trade Deadline. There are several options for Antetokounmpo to end up with teams like the Timberwolves, Knicks, 76ers, Warriors and Bulls. However, another option out of the box might be the Cavaliers, despite little buzz surrounding them.

According to ClutchPoints’ own NBA insider, Brett Siegel, the Cavaliers are trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo it’s not out of the question. The problem Siegel points out is that the Cavaliers are a second-tier team and would have to make multiple moves to get out of that, including moving on assets and players.

Specifically, Siegel said, “The Cavs are the other team. It would take a lot for them to not only get out of the second apron right now or in the summer, but to put together a package for Giannis. Especially since they don’t have a lot of draft funds after trading for Donovan Mitchell and others, but there’s a viable path before Lonoso Ball still wants to be traded. Craig Porter Jr., and obviously Lonzo’s salary cap brings them closer to getting out of that second apron.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trend could affect everything else in the league. If Antetokounmpo is done, it will affect Ja Morant, Domantas Sabonis and Anthony Davis, and whether they will be traded at all, and it will also affect where they might end up.

It’s worth noting that in order for the Cavaliers to pursue Antetokounmpo, they would have to trade Lonzo Ball. The Bucks will also want draft capital and potentially a player the caliber of Evan Mobley. However, Cleveland has shown no interest in trading Mobley.

Unless Cleveland makes some more moves following their trade with three teamsother teams gaining momentum for Giannis are the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves.
