An important move coming soon, but it’s not a trade
Detroit The Pistons remained atop the Eastern Conference this season, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be relinquishing that spot anytime soon. Even though they play some of the best basketball in the league, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. All good teams do everything they can to become great teams, and it’s usually one move they make that puts them over the top.
Yes, trade rumors are swirling, but The pistons did not rise much. That’s because they plan to make a movebut it won’t be a trade, according to NBA insider Jake Fisher.
“You’ll recall that the Pistons felt the need to make that kind of acquisition at last season’s February trade deadline, sneaking in a blockbuster deal from Jimmy Butler and Golden State to acquire Dennis Schroeder to provide a veteran boost to a young team that unexpectedly became a playoff team,” Fisher wrote.
“Stein and I have been writing lately about the Pistons consistently signaling to the market that they don’t want to make an expensive addition this trade cycle, but there is a growing expectation that they will indeed soon turn Dennis Jenkins from a two-way deal to a standard NBA deal,” Fisher continued. “Jenkins started playing for Detroit and bolstered their bench lineups along with Jaden Ivey.”
It’s true: Jenkins has been a real addition to the Pistons, whether he came off the bench or in the starting lineup. If there’s one thing the Pistons might want more of, it’s scoring, and he delivers that when he’s on the floor.
At the same time, it wouldn’t hurt to add someone close to the All-Star level, someone who could take them to the next level.
It is uncertain if such a player would be available to the Pistons and if they would be willing to give up everything to get that player.
