An increase in results for the start of the 2025-26 season is being monitored, but no changes are imminent

NBA fans couldn’t ask for a a better start to the 2025-26 season. Maybe your favorite team might not be off to a good start, but as far as the games and the product on the court, Adam Silver and the league office have to be happy with what they’ve seen as basketball fans.
Teams across the league are hitting a frenzy midway through the second week of the season. Almost every team has at least one player performing at an All-Star level early in the new year, and some of the performances we’ve seen have been video game-like.
There have been 16 different 40-point games by a player so far this season, including four 50-point outings. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored the most points in the game with 55 points against the Indiana Pacers October 23, the third day of the 2025-26 regular season.
Between Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, Luka Dončić, Austin Reavesand many other stars, we saw record performances at the start of the new season.
The number of offensive snaps overall is higher compared to the 2024-25 NBA season, and that is a direct result of more fouls by officials.
While the NBA is witnessing a historic start to the year with some players taking advantage of fouls called on their opponents, no changes are expected which will be made by Silver and the league office, according to ESPN.
Many people in charge of league operations are constantly evaluating how the game is played and potential changes during the season. It wasn’t that long ago that Silver and the NBA decided to make a slight change to the way fouls were called in the middle of the season, resulting in a decline at that point.
However, the changes are not expected to take effect at this time, as the league is happy with how things are going. More importantly, NBA ratings and viewership attest to the fact that fans enjoy the product.
Nearly 37 million people in the United States watched the 2025 American Express NBA Tip-Off via NBC/Peacock, ESPN and Amazon Prime Video, most viewers for the first week in 15 years, the league announced Wednesday. These are incredible numbers for the NBA, especially considering that many games are now on streaming platforms.
As long as the ratings are up and people are enjoying the game, Silver and the league office have no incentive to change anything about the style of play. Everyone enjoys watching high-performance action, and after what we saw during Opening Week, we should expect plenty more fireworks throughout the 2025-26 season.
