An injury expert makes an eye-opening observation on Tree Young

The Atlanta Hawks they managed to get into the win column, defeating the Brooklyn Nets 117-112, but they are waiting for news about their star. Earlier in the game, Trae Young is hurt after Mouhamed Gueie ran into the side of his leg, causing it to bend inwards. Young stayed on the floor, but then left on his own. On the Hawks’ next offensive possession, Young tried to run down the field, and he took himself out of the game, heading straight for the locker room.

Young is ready for an MRIbut there were already some injury experts which they predicted what kind of injury he got, one that involved Jeff Stotts.

“Just watched Trae Young’s injury. As Mo Gueye falls into Young, the impact puts valgus stress through Young’s knee. This mechanism of injury stresses the inside of the knee, specifically the medial collateral ligament (MCL). I’m curious to see what the MRI shows,” Stotts tweeted.

If it’s an MCL injury and it’s just a sprain, Young could be out for a few weeks, which is probably a good scenario after looking at how his knee bent. Anything else would likely put it on the shelf for an extended period of time.

Trae Young’s injury is not ACL related

After the game, head coach Quinn Snyder gave an update to Young’s injury, and first noted that it had nothing to do with his ACL.

“I’m not sure how long (he’ll be out) or what kind of respect, but something to hopefully come back from whenever possible,” Snyder said. “He didn’t want to come out of the game. He’s such a competitor. He’s so proud to be available.”

The Hawks have already dealt with some injuries to their key players early in the season. Kristaps Porzingis, Jaylen Johnson and Zachary Rizacher have already missed games, but were able to return after a couple of games. If Young has to miss extended time, he will have to rely on those players as well as others.

With Young out for most of last game, Luke Kennard had his best game as a Hawk and Nickeil Alexander-Walker has been aggressive in every game this season.

For now, the Hawks will wait and see what the diagnosis is for their star player, and hope for good news.
