Andrew Wiggins beats the Cavs in the alley-oop at the buzzer!

warm cavaliers miami clevelandThe the genius of Erik Spoelstra strike again! We’re at the end of overtime between the Heat and the Cavaliers. On a miraculous three-pointer in the corner, after recovering an offensive rebound, Donovan Mitchell just tied the game at 138-138 and cooled the room. Only to be forgiven for missing the game-winning shot at the end of regulation time.

There are 0.4 seconds left on the clock, and we know this is enough in the NBA to make a layup and shoot. Isn’t that Derek Fisher… It’s a throw-in for Nikola Jovic, and the Serbian finds Andrew Wiggins for the alley-oop win! Kaseia center explodes, and Heat wins 140-138.

Before that, Sam Merrill thought he had turned the game around in the fourth quarter by making four straight 3-pointers in 88 seconds! Cleveland’s scorer finished with 12 points – all of which came in this incredible streak – that allowed the score to return to 106-106.

Choking extension

Then, in a suffocating finale of the match, Evan Mobley thought he would give his team the victory with a game-winning shot and then a counter on Powell, but Jaime Jaquez Jr. took the tie (128-128) on a nice hook. The rest, we know… It’s another crossover in overtime with a shot by Kel’el Ware for a three-point lead (132-129), before Evan Mobley answers from behind.

And then Norman Powell (33 points) scored two free throws, six seconds from the end, and restored the three-point lead (138-135). Timeout for the Cavaliers, and Merrill, the hero of the 4th quarter, comes out to tie the game. His shot is too long, Mitchell catches the rebound, and like Ray Allen, in the same room, he goes back behind the line, in the corner, to make a three. His joy will ultimately be very short-lived.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

– Heat undefeated at home. For the third time in their history, the Heat started the season with five consecutive home wins. The previous two times were in 2012 and 2019, and each time Miami reached the NBA Finals. They even won in 2012/13.

– Return for Darius Garland. The All-Star point guard re-injured his toe in the 3rd quarter, and we’re pretty worried on the Cleveland side. It was that same left big toe that cost him four playoff games last season and the first seven games of this season.

– excludes Kenny Atkinson. Tired of the referees, and Scott Foster in particular, sending the Heat players to the line, Kenny Atkinson received his second technical foul at the very end of the 3rd quarter. The second error is synonymous with expulsion. “We were down to 20 free throws to 3 in the third quarter alone for Miami. I’ve never seen that in my career.” will explain after the meeting.
