Angel Reese confirms return to Chicago Sky despite end-of-season tensions

After a turbulent end to the season that gave rise to rumors of a departure, Angel Reese wanted to clarify his situation. The two-time WNBA All-Star confirmed on Friday that he intends to return to the Chicago Sky, the club with which he is still under contract. “I’m under contract, so yes, I intend to go back to Sky”, Reese said. from Team USA’s training camp. “I continue to talk to Tyler (Marsh) and build that relationship with GM Jeff (Pagliocca) and Tyler.”
Drafted at No. 7 in 2024, Angel Reese is coming off a very complicated sophomore season relationship-wise, despite a very high level of individual performance. In 2025, the former LSU star finished as the league’s leading rebounder (12.6 shots per game), the leader in double-doubles (23), while leading the Sky in scoring (14.7 ppg) and assists (3.7).
But his relationship with the franchise soured at the end of the season comments for the Chicago Tribunein which Reese publicly expressed concern about the situation at the point guard position and suggested that the Sky need to bring in great players or risk seeing her leave…
Statements deemed “detrimental to the team” by management, who then decided suspended for the first half the next match. Rees then sat out the entire season, officially due to a back injury, missing the final four games. Without her, Chicago sank: 1-13, ending the year with a dismal 10-34 record and a second straight playoff appearance.
Under contract until 2026, with a “team option” for 2027, Angel Reese has since apologized, both publicly and privately, to her teammates. The good news for Sky is that Reese claims she is fully recovered from a back injury that limited her to just 30 games in 2025. As proof, she is one of 10 new players invited to this weekend’s US national team camp at Duke, alongside Kaitlin Clark, Juia Watkins and Paige Bueckers.
“These are the moments we don’t take for granted,” Reese confides. “I haven’t been on the national team since university, and coming back here with the hope of making the team is really important to me. I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Olympics, especially in Los Angeles. I want to represent this country in the best way possible. I’m really excited to be here and to experience this moment.”
